Harper's Ferry Getaway

One of the things that Alice and I had both wanted to do in our "younger" days was to do a through hike of the Appalachian Trail.  We have been doing hikes since we met, but, the frequency and distance of each hike has been diminishing with every passing year.  We have resigned ourselves to never doing an AT through hike, that is hiking from Springer Mountain, GA to Mt Katadin, ME, if doing a Northbound (NOBO), in a one year period.  We have thought that we would hike portions of the AT, so we headed off to Harper's Ferry to hike the WV portion of the AT. We got to the AT Conservancy in Harper's Ferry and discovered that there is a fourteen state challenge for those that feel they cannot do a through hike but would like to be a part of the AT hiker community.  We have determined that we will take on the 14 state challenge.  We hiked a couple of miles in Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania back in August of 2023 and did the Amicalola Falls approach trail in January of 2024.  So, two down on the 14 state challenge.

Blue blaze from Harper's Ferry down to the Appalachian Trail.

And us at the AT end of the blue blaze trail.

Each of us on the white blaze AT in West Virginia!

Walking across the the bridge on the AT in Maryland.  We made it to the other side; definitely in Maryland.  4th state down out of 14.

And here we are at Keys Gap Virginia; 5 down on the 14 state challenge.

Nine more to go on the Appalachian Trail 14 state challenge!

And if you need a place to stay, check out Sunset Rouge in Harper's Ferry on Air BnB.  One of the sunsets we enjoyed from these two extremely  comfy chairs.
